Pimpama is a suburb of the City of Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. It is located on the banks of Pimpama River and Tugun Creek. The name “Pimpama” derives from an Aboriginal word meaning either “a place where food grows”, or “place where water comes down”.
Many people who live in this area have jobs as fly-in fly-out workers for mining companies, with many employed at nearby coal mines such as those at Collinsville and Curragh.
Pimpama is home to a number of popular tourist attractions and features, including the Curragh coal mine, Pimpama Island Recreation Reserve. Angling enthusiasts also flock to the area at certain times of the year to sample local fishing spots.
